Over the past 50 years, sculptor Kazik Gasior has experimented with different approaches to form and materials. His artistic expression has evolved. In his most recent and significant years, he has explored two contrasting words, one organic and living, the other mineral and dead. In Kazik's work, these two worlds are represented by wood and stone, which coexist in constant tension. This tension is often mediated by the presence of amber. This mysterious fossil neutralizes the powers of the other two radically different materials. It's a confrontation, an eternal race between life and death where there's no winner. The balance of power is neutralized, allowing these two antithetical materials to become one: stonewood.
